Watts Bar Lake is located in East Tennessee where it nestles between Rhea, Roane, Meigs, and Loudon Counties just southeast of Knoxville. This 39,000 acre lake was built by the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1942 and offers over 789 miles of beautiful shoreline and is one of Tennessees most scenic lakes. The towns of Spring City, Rockwood, Harriman, Oak Ridge, Ten Mile and Knoxville border the lake giving access to all the amenities for the good life. The lake is fed by two other rivers and three large creeks making it an ideal vacation destination as well as an excellent place for a resort, second home or permanent living whether you wish to just relax or enjoy all the water related activities offered here.

Chickamauga Lake is located in Hamilton, Rhea, and Meigs Counties just northeast of Chattanooga and was completed in 1940 by the Tennessee Valley Authority. It is named after the Chickamauga Indians that formerly inhabited the area. It offers 35,000 acres of water recreation for the vacationer, a second home or a lovely residence on or overlooking the lake. The lake has over 800 miles of shoreline and like Watts Bar, offers fishing, swimming, boating, camping, sight seeing, picnicking or wild animal and bird watching. Hiking trails abound in the surrounding hills and along the shores of this enormous lake. Marinas, resorts, boat tours, beaches, restaurants, and boat launches surround the lake. A ten mile river walk meanders alongside the Tennessee River, beginning at the Chickamauga Dam and continuing to downtown Chattanooga, where a walking bridge spans the Tennessee River. This lake is also fed by the Hiwassee River at the famous archaeological site at Hiwassee Island at the northern end of the lake.

The towns of Dayton, Decatur, Soddy Daisy, Harrison, Sale Creek and Chattanooga are on the shores of Chickamauga Lake and are historically famous. Many of these towns hold annual celebrations depicting times of historical interest that can be enjoyed by the whole family. These depictions are reenactments of civil war battles, the Scopes Monkey Trial, annual strawberry festival, country music in the parks and many other events too numerous to list.

Recreation abounds at Watts Bar Lake and Chickamauga Lake with fishing, swimming, camping, boating, picnicking being among the most popular activities. There are many resorts, campgrounds, rental cabins, restaurants and boat launches along our beautiful shoreline. These lakes are popular for fishing for species such as crappie, bluegill, catfish, stripped bass, large mouth and small mouth bass, sauger and many other edible fish. Nothing tops the thrill of being on the lakes of East Tennessee.

A scenic highway connects Watts Bar Lake and Chickamauga Lake to the Smokies in the east, the Cumberland Plateau to the west, Lookout and Signal Mountains to the south all of which have hiking trails, mountain biking, hunting, and wild game watching as well as many other activities for the entire family. If you prefer the mountains to the lakes, you can have a cabin in the hills that overlook the valleys, sit on your porch, look through the wisps of smokey fog at the valleys below and see the towns and cities in the far distance. This is where the mountain people enjoy times of quite solitude but still have a feeling of being in touch with civilization.
